ZTE to Deploy Trial LTE Network in the USA

US regional operator, Commnet Wireless has contracted with ZTE to deploy a test LTE network covering parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.

The network will be based on ZTE's core dual-mode CDMA/LTE platform to meet the service requirements of roaming subscribers.

Technical-trials, like this partnership with Commnet Wireless, help showcase our core understanding of North American carriers and their technology requirements. As part of this deployment ZTE's technology will allow Commnet Wireless to provide record high-speed voice, video and data services via a high-speed 4G LTE network. ZTE is currently in a strong position to build new partnerships to bring LTE-based service offerings to the US market," said Xiangyang Jiang, executive president of ZTE North America.

As part of future plans ZTE and the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority are in discussions for additional US Broadband Stimulus funding from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.

In related news, Commnet Wireless' parent company, Atlantic Tele-Network has amended and restated its existing senior secured credit facility, providing for the addition of a new $150 million term loan to be used to fund its previously announced pending acquisition of former Alltel assets from Verizon Wireless.

The Company expects to borrow the entire amount of the new $150 million term loan in connection with the proposed acquisition of the former Alltel assets, which the Company currently expects to complete, subject to the receipt of certain regulatory consents, during the first quarter of 2010.
