This weekend, the Costa Rican mobile network operator, Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) is asking its subscribers to turn off their phones on Saturday night as it switches its network from older infrastructure to a newer platform.
Some 1.8 million customers are being asked to leave their phones off over Saturday night and switch them back on again on Sunday.
The company is switching off its older, and controversially supplied Alcatel equipment and will be using new Ericsson supplied network infrastructure.
The change will not affect the 300,000 customers on the TDMA network.
